varicocele

Varicocele, the most common and correctable cause of male infertility, is the abnormal enlargement of the testicles and surrounding veins. It is seen in 15-20% of men who are often on the left side and do not have any problems. While 35-40% of men who apply for a child request, varicocele is detected in 80% of men who apply for a second child (secondary).

The diagnosis of varicocele can be made by urology examination and ultrasonographic examinations. Sperm structure can be disrupted by many mechanisms. Sperm count, shape and motility can be impaired due to reasons such as increased fluid in the testicular tissue, O2 deficiency (hypoxia), oxidative damage, toxic substances excreted from the kidneys, and testosterone hormone decrease.

In necessary patients, there is a statistical increase in sperm count and motility after varicocele operation, thus achieving spontaneous pregnancies up to 50%.
