EMBRYO TRANSFER AT APPROPRIATE TIME

Embryos formed by fertilization of sperm and egg are followed in the laboratory and transferred to the uterus of the expectant mother under the most favorable conditions. In some cases, suitable conditions for embryo transfer may not occur, for example, when the endometrium is not thickened enough, the progesterone hormone is high, or when conditions such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions in the uterus that will prevent the embryo from adhering to the uterus are detected; Freezing and storing the embryo and transferring it when suitable conditions occur can effectively increase the patient's chance of achieving pregnancy.

What is embryo freezing?

Embryo freezing is the freezing and storage of developing embryos in tanks containing liquid nitrogen at -196C. It is possible to freeze and store embryos effectively in centers with successful laboratories, and to obtain viability at rates close to 100% after thawing. Recovery and high pregnancy rates, especially with frozen cells, are the most important indicators of the success level of a clinic.

In which situations is embryo freezing preferred?

- If there are embryos that can be conceived after the transfer, they can be frozen for later transfer. If the couple wishes to have a baby again, it will be less physically tiring and will have the chance to be treated in a shorter time.

- In patients with a large number of eggs, if the ovaries have over-responded to treatment (severe ovarian hyperstimulation), all resulting embryos can be frozen without transfer.

- When it is desired to increase the chance of pregnancy by making an embryo pool in patients with a low number of eggs,

- When the endometrial thickness is insufficiently monitored during the follow-up of the patient,

- When polyps, fibroids or adhesions are detected in the uterus,

- When there is fracture bleeding close to the transfer,

- Embryo freezing may be recommended before cancer chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
