BASIC INFERTILITY SERVICES

Many of patients are helped through basic infertility treatments. If you and your partner are having difficulty conceiving, then you may want to consider learning more about infertility treatment such as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), which is often referred to as “artificial insemination.” In addition to IUI, there are other methods that have allowed couples to enjoy the joy of pregnancy and childbirth after months, even years, of failed attempts to get pregnant. Here is a brief overview of some of the most common infertility treatments:

Natural Cycle Monitoring

In some cases patients do not become pregnant because of difficulties related to ovulation timing.Doctor monitors these patients to determine when ovulation occurs, for timed intercourse or assists the patient by performing Intrauterine Insemination . Further treatment may depend upon the results of these tests.

Ovulation Induction

Ovulation induction is one of the most common treatments for many causes of infertility. This process involves the stimulation of a woman’s ovaries through the use of ovulation induction medications or fertility drugs. The treatment aims at increasing the chance of pregnancy by enabling the development of 2-3 eggs in women who have no ovulation or irregular ovulation. Medication is given until the follicles in the ovaries reach a certain size by ultrasonographic examination. Each follicle contains one egg. When follicles reach a certain size, hCG injection is done to rupture the follicle. After this, sexual intercourse is recommended or artificial insemination is carried out (intra-uterine insemination, IUI).

Intrauterine Insemination
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is the placing of washed sperm in the women’s uterus when she is ovulating.

The procedure performed to those couples who have healthy tubal function, ovulation and suitable sperm quality and quantity.

IUI is often recommended for women or couples who:

have ovulation problems and are undergoing ovulation induction;
are unable to have normal intercourse with ejaculation into the vagina at appropriate times;
have mild male factor infertility;
have unexplained infertility.
This treatment has three steps;

Ovulation induction: Medical treatment performed to initiate ovulation. In this step, we aim to obtain 2-3 follicles to release the egg from the ovary. The preparation of the sperm: Most of the sperm samples received by the laboratory have been collected by masturbation on the day of the IUI. Once the sperm sample is in the laboratory, it is processed by using various purification techniques allowing the sperm to separate from the seminal fluid, dead sperms, cellular debris and bacteria. Processing the sample in this way allows only strong swimming sperm to be collected.
The last step: This step is introducing the sperm directly into the woman’s cervix or uterus with the aid of a thin tube. During this process, it is necessary to be careful about sterility conditions. Minimally Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopy or Hysteroscopy) Laparoscopy is performed to examine the abdominal wall or the female pelvic organs. Laparoscopy is used to diagnose problems such as cysts, adhesions, fibroids or infection. It is also used to confirm endometriosis, a condition in which cells that look and act like the cells of the lining of the uterus (endometrium), are found in other parts of the abdominal cavity.

Hysteroscopy is performed to inspect the inside of the uterus for fibroids, polyps, scarring and abnormal shape. During this procedure, a thin scope is inserted into your vagina and moved gently to the cervix and then into the uterus. The hysteroscope has a light and a camera at the end so the endometrium can be seen clearly on a monitor. During this procedure, a small sample of your tissue may be taken to perform a biopsy.
